　　propose，作出計劃;打算。

　　dispose，,安排;處置

　　這句諺語告訴我們凡事都要通過自己的努力才會成功。

　　同義表達有：God helps those who help themselves. 天道酬勤。

　　a drop in the bucket多用于美語，也可說成"a drop in the ocean"，表示同整體比起來，只占很小的一部分或者是和較大、較多、較重要的事物比，并不算什么。

　　如：A hundred thousand may seem a lot but it's a drop in the bucket/ocean compared to the millions that need to be spent.

　　bucket一詞所指的桶，就指我們以前家里用來提水或者提砂子/油漆用的桶。我們平常說傾盆大雨，大家比較熟悉的表達有It rains cats and dogs.其實還有更相近的It rains buckets.

　　35、Opportunity seldom knocks twice.福無雙至;機會難得。

　　參考第25句：He loses all who loses the moment.

　　36、Measure twice and cut once.三思而后行。

　　measure,在這里做動詞，一般情況下解釋為度量(大小、長短、數(shù)額等)，在這里可以引申為考慮，權(quán)衡。

　　cut，剪下，停止，在這里我們可以理解為果斷地做某事。我們平時說走捷徑，抄短路，用英語表示就是short-cut。如，Let's make a short-cut.我們抄近路吧。

　　37、To err is Humane. 人孰無過。

　　人非圣賢，孰能無過。這句話的英語表達方式就是：The err is Humane.

　　38、He that handles pitch, shall foul his finger. 近朱者赤，近墨者黑。

　　handle，觸;摸;碰;拿

　　foul,在這里做動詞，是弄臟，弄污，污染的意思。foul這個詞還可以解釋為(足球等運動中)對……犯規(guī)。在足球比賽中經(jīng)常聽到解說員這樣說：他因?qū)α硪魂牭氖亻T員犯規(guī)而被罰下場。用英語表達就是：He was sent off for fouling the other team's goalkeeper.

　　39、He loses his thanks who promises and delays.許諾又拖延，有恩無人謝。

　　這里thanks做名詞，意為道謝的話。

　　promises,做名詞解釋為諾言，做動詞時就是做出承諾，發(fā)誓的意思。

　　delay和postpone是同意詞，解釋為拖延。

　　日常生活中，我們總是做出這樣或那樣的承諾。需要注意的是，做出承諾后，我們不但要履行我們的承諾，而且必須在一定的時間內(nèi)實現(xiàn)，否則別人就會說：He loses his thanks who promises and delays.

　　40、The more you study, the more you will find yourself ignorant. ——Descartes

　　學，然后知不足。——笛卡兒

　　ignorant，是無知、愚昧、缺少教育或知識的意思。常與of和in連用。例如：I am quite ignorant of what his plans are.我一點也不知道他的計劃是什么。

　　無知的人，就是an ignorant person。

　　另外，uneducated, unlearned也有無知的意思。不同的是，uneducated是指未受過正規(guī)系統(tǒng)教育的,如:He was uneducated.他未受過正規(guī)教育。unlearned是指無學問的，無文化的。例如:He was not unlearned in history.他對歷史并非無知。

　　這句格言的同義表達有： Knowledge is infinite. 學無止境。
